Elsbury Primary School

Celebrates Excellence

in Education

ELSBURY PRIMARY is situated in Elsbury way, Matroosfontein and currently consist of one Principal, one deputy principal, eleven educators, one administrator and two janitors.

The school was founded in January 1948 and consisted of eight classes which were accommodated in two halls named Matroosfontein Civic Hall with a learner total of 478.  Five classes were in the Civic Hall and the other three classes were in the Burial Hall.

In April 1954 the Elsbury Primary School was officially opened by the Administrator of the Cape and since then we have never looked back.  The teachers spared neither time nor labour to their devotion of duty, hence we were second to none in the fields of Education, Athletics and other Mural Activities.

The department looked at the learner total in 1960 and decided to put a prefab building that contains about eight classes.  Since then the school just grew and grew not only in education but also in other mural activities.

With the schools 60th anniversary in 2008, the school establishment consisted of 14 eductors and had an enrolment of 450 learners.

The current principal is Ms. M.A. Jantjies, which was appointed in January 2011.  Our enrolment for 2011 is 447 learners.  We are blessed with a staff compliment of 11 educators, a principal, a deputy principal, 2 janitors and a administrator.  The major challenge the school is facing and has been facing for the past few years is to accommodate for the number of enrolments every year.
